SILENCE fell on a football pitch last weekend as a youth team from Bordon held its own Remembrance service.
There was poignancy at the pitchside on Saturday as both the Wey Valley U14s and their Basingstoke opponents held a minute’s silence after a reading of For The Fallen.
The Oakmoor ceremony followed a minute’s applause for Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Iraq veteran Martin Simms, a parent who served in the armed forces from 1989 to 2003.
The service was attended by mayor of Whitehill, Leeroy Scott, Cllr Andy Tree, Catherine Clark and the school’s head of PE, who watched the home side romp to a 10-1 victory.
