A display of lanterns will represent a bonfire at the Holybourne Fireworks on November 2.
The real thing - a tradition of Guy Fawkes Night since the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 - has been banned by Historic England.
The Holybourne Village Association, which is organising the fireworks display, said in a statement: “Following consultation with Historic England, it is with regret that we will not be able to have bonfires on the Sports Field, which is situated on an ancient monument.
“To create a visual representation of a bonfire, and continue the tradition of remembering the failure of the Gunpowder Plot and subsequent bonfires that were lit in celebration of the safety of the King, we would like to invite you all to bring a lantern which the volunteers will place together in front of the fireworks.
“We will be looking at alternative venues for future years, and this will not affect the fireworks or any other event details.”
