BETTY STANDLEY celebrated her 100th birthday at Alton’s Marlfield Care Home on March 18.

Surrounded by friends, banners and balloons, the staff made sure Betty had a day full of surprises.

An accomplished choir from Wootey Infant School sang Happy Birthday, a Scottish piper had everyone on their feet dancing a celebratory jig, and a personal message from the Queen was among Betty’s barrage of good wishes.

The biggest surprise of all was a visit from her son and daughter-in-law, who live overseas. She had not seen them since before the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

A giant cake proudly displayed her 100 years and glasses of Champagne were enjoyed by all.
