There will more wags than a footballer’s wedding in Holybourne when a care home holds a dog show on Saturday, June 29.

The community dog show – affectionately known as Scruffies – will take place at The Lawn at 2pm with the contest featuring 11 categories.

Bosses at the London Road home run by Friends of the Elderly didn’t give paws in agreeing to run a second show after the success of last year’s event.

“Our 2023 event was such a success that we really had to host it again,” said Emma Cranstone, activities coordinator at the care home.

“Last year our residents had a ‘paw-fect’ day and everyone was so keen, and loved it so much, that they insisted that we hosted the event again this year.”

Registration will take place at 1.30pm while dogs of all breeds can take part with categories including Best Junior Handler, the Sausage Eating Race and ‘dogs most like their owner’ award.

“Our residents not only love dogs, but all animals,” added general manager, Alina Gutu. “They frequently reminisce and talk about pets they have loved and looked after.”

Entry is £1 per dog, per category with the top three winners in each category receiving a rosette made by a resident of The Lawn. Every dog will also receive a goody bag, with proceeds from the event going to the Residents’ Activity Fund.

Afternoon teas will be available, to enter a dog or for more information email [email protected] or call 01420 84162.
