The Alresford Art Society will be opening the doors of the town’s Community Centre to stage its annual exhibition this weekend.
Held over three days from Friday (June 30) to Sunday, more than 100 works will be on display including paintings and folios in watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel, wire relief and sculpture, and nearly all will be for sale, along with hundreds of cards printed from original artwork.
Exhibits will cover subjects ranging from seascapes to landscapes; from local views and buildings, to vibrant holiday destinations, from delicate flower studies to portraits.President Sue Gentry said: “We are delighted contemporary artist Paul Treasure will be doing the honours and will open this year’s exhibition at the society’s preview night, which is being sponsored by Hellards estate agents.Prizes will be awarded for the People’s Choice (voted by exhibition visitors), won last year by Jeannie Pakenham’s watercolour painting The Sightseers. Other categories include best oil painting, best acrylic, best floral, best new exhibitor and best watercolour, named in memory of talented Alresford watercolourist Rachel Thomsen.This year’s exhibition in West Street will be open from 10am to 5pm on Friday (June 30), 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
