HAMPSHIRE Police are investigating after a van was set alight in Court Close, Liphook in the early hours of last Friday (March 16).

Firefighters from Liphook Fire Station were first to arrive at the scene at around 2am and, joined by colleagues from Grayshott, spent an hour tackling the blaze.

The police were called at 2.05am and confirmed the fire is being treated as arson, with enquiries into the exact circumstances on-going.

A Court Close resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Herald they heard what sounded like a car alarm at 2am, and called the fire service after seeing their neighbour’s work van was on fire.

They said a second car parked to the rear of the van was caught in the flames, and claimed the van owner's car was also stolen last month and used in a robbery in Portsmouth.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44180099184.
